Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

So yeah, revealing most of what I ordered
First of, touhou games :3
The official ones (which were in stock)
Touhou 7 – Perfect Cherry Blossom
Touhou 8 – Imperishable Night
Touhou 9 – Phantasmagoria of Flower View
Touhou 9.5 – Shoot the Bullet
Touhou 11 – Mountain of Faith

Too bad Embodiment of a Scarlet Devil weren’t in stock, it’s my favorite, and the first non-pc-98 touhou game.

And I got two Touhou spin-offs, Megamari (Like Megaman, just with a touhou theme\ characters\music, and まとめの音楽集その1 by “Moon Goddess”)
Photobucket
Photobucket
Kinda dark picture, but what is haruhi characters doing on the cover…
And why does this page list it as a book?

http://doujinshi.mugimugi.org/book/145552/

It sure as hell doesn’t look like one, atleast mine does look an awful lot like a CD. >_>

Then there’s just one spin-off to go, it’s on its way, more on that when I get it.
Whatever, moving on…

A new headset, yes, I have one from Koss and one pair of Steelseries, but I wanted some smaller ones, I figured I should get some which are a little bit “exotic” or atleast unusual in comparison to what people around here usually have.
So I decided on XCalgo, some japanese brand, I noticed them over at akibaharanews some time ago and they looked pretty cool.
Here’s a GIF
Rawr xcalgo gif

Hmmmmmmmm…………

:)

I also got some manga, I don’t like to buy long series, I will make exceptions though, for series I really like, like Kare Kano and Urutsei Yatsura :3

First of we have:
Tenchi Muyo: Sasami Stories
It’s just a one shot, and it was cheap, so I thought “why not?”
Photobucket

Next one:
Kare Kano
Photobucket
I thought there were just like 1 book, but apparently there’s 21 volumes (IIRC)
I love mangas like this and Lovely Complex, I don’t know why, but these are now both amongst my all-time favorites.
At about 600 pages, this is huge.
Comparison shot:
Photobucket

Last but not least, another random buy. (I influenced Nekoflaa to buy it too :P )
Mao-Chan (By Ran and Ken Akamatsu (Of Love Hina fame, one of the characters even bears a striking resemblance to Narusegawa from Love Hina))
Wikipedia says 4 volumes, but my version is just two slightly larger volumes. (There seems to be somewhere in between 100 and 200 extra pages with info and a side-story)
Photobucket

Comparison shot again.
Photobucket
It was so cheap, couldn’t not buy it. :P

And I needed a new bookmark, so yeah.
Photobucket
Photobucket

And I got some YoruichiXSoifon fanart. :3
Photobucket
That means I didn’t draw it.
I actually haven’t drawn anything in quite a while, still, a bunch of girls requested that I’d join Deviantart, which I now consider doing.

So yeah, I think this be it. :3

:) and also, roar rawr

I and Okami woke up early, ate breakfast on Deli and tried to reach “kongress senteret” before 9, we got there a few minutes late, but didn’t really matter.

Me and a few other people went to get two tv’s at havok’s house.
When we were back and I had properly arranged the chillout spot Jintox still weren’t there.
He came a little bit after the opening show were over. (it was just for the 100 first people to get tickets and crew.

Nekoflaa wrote ⑨ on my cheek

I really liked the AMV they had this time, not that I didn’t like the ones they’ve had before, I just really loved this one, the song and everything. I’ll find out which AMV it was and make a post about it.
Then they showed the three Soracon trailers and talked a little bit about what was gonna happen.
That’s about it, not as big as the Desucon opening show, but still good.

People played a bunch of Super Mario World.
(And Kenneth’s (@neo-tokyo) kid were suprisingly good, especially considering they don’t have a SNES\Super Famicom at home.
I asked him (Kenneth) about it and he just told me it runs in the family. :P

Over to the cosplay competition, I kinda missed it :(
Though I know this happened:
pedobear
Beyond awesome, but since it was on a huge stage in the middle of one of oslo’s largest marketplaces (? I’m not that familiar with oslo, but I think it is) It migh’ve been a daring move, if it goes in some newspapers or something it would’ve been blown up like hell.
Mainly because of incompetence and unfamiliarity with the subject.
But yeah, that would’ve needed more than a little bit of explaining I think.
(oh, and they did it twice)
So what have we learned?
Never send someone cosplaying Pedobear (Even though it’s a girl) and a little girl (unprotected) out on the same stage.

And we had jack sparrow (Which really looked and played like he was the real deal, pretty amazing stuff. And a guy wrapped in two plastic bags, bordering on scary. :P )
I got some more stuff, like fanart. (YoruichiXSoiFon hehehe :3)
More on that in the third post coming up, Tomorrow, since I’m starting to get tired.

So we got home at about 24:00 I think, mostly because we got told to take train number 19 while we really should take number 17, so we ended up taking a later one.

So yeah, saturday, jrock night +more

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

I picked up a lot of stuff which I’ll cover in another post. (I’ll divide this weekend into 3 posts)

I met up with staiain and nekoflaa (stian and thomas) at Outland where we walked around for quite some time. I bought some mangas (And I influenced nekoflaa to buy some of them too, though he bought 10+ mangas or something, he used alot of money on it atleast :P ), more on which ones later.

Outside we found a card from “Oslo anonymous” which said go to “youfoundthecard.com”
Pretty hilarious.

Then we went to Neo-Tokyo which recently moved to “Arkaden”, a shopping center of sorts.
I picked up most of the stuff, except for one thing which hadn’t arrived yet.
Then we went to burger king, where we ate and leeched of their open internet connection. :3 We played stepmania on my eee and tried out a new pair of headphones.
Then we went over to where jrock night were being held.

We watched The Lillith perform (a danish “jrock band” playing mostly cover songs), while I and Nekoflaa’s sister where “leashed to eachother”, literally.
I’m not really keen on them, the reason I’m there is more for the social experience, hanging out with friends and stuff.
Though I really liked the first non-cover song they played, can’t remember what it was called though.

Then I slept over at okami’s sister’s appartment.
We watched a bunch of kpop\jpop bands on youtube and the whole Rain vs. Stephen Colbert feud (Which awesomely enough ends with a game of DDR :P )

Bag of eee

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I bought a “Bag of Holding” from thinkgeek, ViD recommended it, and the bag actually seems larger on the inside than on the outside. (Just like they say on their site)
Photobucket

And I bought myself an eee, the 1000h version, sure, the 1000he version is out, but I think the minimal update don’t justify the greater cost.
Photobucket
Photobucket
I’d like a white one, but they didn’t have any left.
So far I’m satisfied, and most of my strategy games works just fine even though I’m fully aware it’s not intended for gaming.

Stuff

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Yeah, I ordered some stuff, I’ll reveal what later this month.

It still bothers me that a game I were going to order is out of stock, Touhou Reitaiki.

http://www.paletweb.com/selectpage.asp?code=80000804#picture

I mean, holy shit, look at that cover, it is the most awesome cover for any game, ever.

Well, the most awesome thing ever
*Spoiler*

Direct FF7 reference

Photobucket
Photobucket

Most people would probably look at it and think, yeah, FF reference, and some will get it at once.
It’s all in the name, Altos Tratus = Altostratus which is some kind of cloud (Get it) if my memory serves me right.
He communicates through speech bubbles which I find kind of funny.
I wonder what it says on the side though, damn you kanji.
And Matt Hazard hates ellipses apparently.

And I played some Fuel, and holy shit this game is huge.

Photobucket
Photobucket

See that red arrow, that stretch took me somewhere in between 1-2 hours at an average of 70 Mph (about 105 Km/h I think)
And the other picture is of the whole map, it’s so huge.

Who said norway is always cold and snowy?

Photobucket

-36 degrees celsius, that’s 98 Fahrenheit for you US ppl.
-I finally reached 10000 gamerscore on xbox live.
-Jazzin’ Park is awesome.
-And last but not least, the tip of a shoelace is called an aglet.

Gaming spree

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

The last couple of months have been dry-time for the gaming scene, especially on the x360.
That’s about to change though, there’s about 20 new games that might be worth trying this june\july.
Just look at 26th of june, that’s gonna be one great birthday :P
Guilty Gear 2: Overture (26. juni)
Alan Wake (26. juni)
Rage? (26. juni)
Singularity (26. juni)
Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires (26. juni)

But yeah, 3 new games tried out.
First out, Red Faction: guerrilla.
Who can resist a game where everything is destructible?
Not me atleast, there’s just so much satisfaction in running up to any wall\house\whatever, taking out your hammer and seeing the debris fly everywhere when you start smashing your way through the wall.
It’s nice for the time being but it might become repitive after some time.

Second, Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard, “old” but I never got to play it.
Sure there’s no ground breaking gameplay, and the graphics might be slightly bellow average.
But this game is all about comedy and parodying other games, both old and new. (Though, the older you are, the more you jokes you will get. Or if you’re like me, kinda young but experienced in the field of classic gaming lore. :P )
When you start the game, the first you will see is that you get an achievement for buying the game, then if you press start, it gives you one for reaching the pause menu.
Sure, it’s been done before, only difference is that this time it feels right.
Photobucket
If you check your mission list it actually says “shoot everything that moves” in every level, since that’s basically what you do in fps and third person shooters like this game.
Photobucket
Yes, these are kind of bland since it’s been done so many times before.
This though:
Photobucket
I mean, seriously? Failboat? That’s a new one.
The game is littered with stuff like “If you’re having trouble interrogating people, that’s because there’s no interrogating feature in this game”
Photobucket
lol Max Payne

Third, finally, the PAL version of Star Ocean – The last hope.
Upon starting the game you will be presented with what I feel is one of the best intros to any movie\game ever, it just feels that grand. (The game itself is also pretty grand, with 3DVDs and 50-100 hours expected gametime)
This game is an JRPG that takes place in 2097, or “spacedate 10″ if you prefer that, after world war III has destroyed the earth.
This game utilizes a real-time combat system, which reminds me of the “tales of” series, which is good for people who for some reason dislike turn-based, though I don’t prefer any one over the other.
And the music, my god, the music, I might call it one of the best soundtracks this generation.
Composed by Motoi Sakuraba which I feel is on par with Nobuo Uematsu (of Final fantasy fame).
Get this game now.
(Oh, and eldarians are just an excuse to get green haired girls and up the moe factor a notch.)

Not supposed to be a review or something, just some thoughts about the games.
This post turned out a little bit longer than I expected.

Now on to getting Fuel, which just got released for the x360. :)

Arcade stick

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Yesterday I went to Oslo and picked up my Arcana Heart 2 arcade style controller at Neo-tokyo. :3
It’s from hori (hori.jp) and it feels just like the real thing.
The reason I choose the arcana heart one is because it doesn’t looks so “boring” (white+pink and a pretty nice faceplate) and because I like arcana heart.

Some pics:

Photobucket
Photobucket
(It reads “Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2″)

I’ve yet to play arcana heart 2 with it though.
But what I did play was “The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil” (Touhou 6) and “Immaterial and Missing Power” (Touhou 7.5). (Using a triolinker from hkems)
I almost finished Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on hard first try, considering I haven’t played shmups in a long time and that I’ve never tried it with an arcade controller, I would say that’s pretty good.
The controls in Immateral and Missing Power felt flawless.
Hori = quality.

disk repair

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

I disassembled my 1TB MyBook and put it in the freezer overnight.
I managed to recover about 400GB of my stuff that way, so I guess I’ll do it again.

And I bought a new 1TB WD Elements, I like those drives, compact, cool and seems pretty sturdy.
